3 of the Best Parenting Books

Image
First, I should let you all know that I am not a perfect parent by any means. I have my great, awesome mom days.  I have my bad, not so good mom days, and all in between. I am, however, always on the look out for GREAT parenting books. I have checked many books out at the library, have taken a parent-toddler workshop, with both of my kids, and talk to many parents. So let's get started as to why I find these three books to be the best. 1. No-Drama Discipline I found that the best principle in this book was to connect with your kids. When our kids act out, which they do, then it is our job to be the detective and figure out why. A hug, or confirming their feelings helps calm the situation down so then we talk about the situation and possible consequences. I have tried this and it works wonders, but I have noticed that if I am tired and my kids are tired as well, it makes it a bit harder. As long as I have had a good night sleep I am a better parent (aren't we all tho...

Mother's Day Gift

Image
With Mother's Day around the corner, I needed to come up with a gift for my mom. So I came up with the perfect gift. Every month when my children turned another month older, I took their picture. (I only did this the first year.) My mom loves them and has been wanting to have the all, so why not make her a book. In Silhouette Studio I used the Amy Robison mini album design. Adjust to the size you want. Fill the page with the image and cut out as many as you need. For the cover, I cut out two pieces of card stock and glued them together. *I did learn to check the direction of your paper for the back cover. It could end up upside down. Cut out the circle and embellish. Now you have a cute mini album all ready to go for your mom!! Happy Mother's Day to all you great moms and women!

Weekend Fun!

Image
Our weekends fly bye and because they do we try to make the best of them. Look around your area and try and find things that are unique to you. For example we a fresh water spring in our community. My husband has loved going to it since he was a little boy and calls it the tree of life! I also have come up with 10 fun free things to do with your kids, regardless of age! Backyard campfire/or campout: Pitch that tent and build a fire! As a kid, me and my brothers loved sleeping outside, and now we love having a campfire. Backyard movie. Pick a family favorite (Sandlot, Hook, Rookie of the Year, Cars, Toy Story etc.) Blow up an air mattress and watch that movie Drive Inn Style. Walking trails or Hiking Trails. Living in Ogden we have so many trails around our beautiful mountains. Easy, medium or hard trails are everywhere. Go to the park. Get those kiddos exercising. Swinging, slides, climbing, chasing, the list is endless. Feeding Ducks. I have 2 duck ponds close to me, and ye...

Journals: Baby

Image
Lately I have been feeling the need to journal everything. Probably because my great grandparents and grandparents have given me nothing of their lives other than cookware and dishes! (I want pictures and stories.) First of all, I have several journals I have kept throughout the years. Second, I have multiple ways of keeping memories. Today I am showing you what I have done for my Sadie. When I was pregnant, I had a lot  of ultrasounds. We moved from St. George to Ogden and I doubled by ultrasound pictures! So I made a flip book! It was simple. I cut the paper the size I wanted (6x6) Printed on clear labels dates, and what the pictures are. Next, I made a Sutterfly book of her first month. Including hospital pictures and newborn pics. Shutterfly sent me serval free book coupons for just having a baby! Love looking through this. Last but not least, I document milestones Sadie accomplishes in memory journal. I found this one at Wal-Mart. I write in it mont...

Book to read

I like to read. I won't say love because it has to be a good book for me to really be into. I am going to recommend on reading "For Times of Trouble" by Jeffery R. Holland. It is amazing and it has helped me really see that life is full of problems but it is our attitude on our problems that make the difference.
